It all started after I watched The Grand Budapest Hotel in 2018. As a Chinese cinephile based in Germany, I have a strong passion for cinema. One movie a day keeps the doctor away. I combined my academic and award race knowledge with my passion for cinema in my master's thesis where I developed an algorithm to predict the Oscar nominations and winners using Machine Learning.
I'm obsessed with different film festivals. My journey started in 2022 when I went to the 79th Venice Film Festival and I saw TÁR three times and The Banshees of Inisherin twice there. This experience changed my life. I've never been so happy and this is just the magic of movies. My TÁR review also won the second prize in the Venice Review Award. Moreover, my half-star Blonde review earned me nearly 500 followers.
I value film soundtracks the most. My favourite composers are Alexandre Desplat, Ushio Kensuke, Abel Korzeniowski, Max Richter, Marco Beltrami, Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross, Hans Zimmer, Rob Simonsen, Daniel Pemberton, Yuki Kajiura, Jóhann Jóhannsson, Ludwig Göransson, Carter Burwell, Henry Jackman, Ramin Djawadi, Kyle Dixon & Michael Stein, and many more.
Watching movies is my way of traveling. I love different languages and learning the language by watching movies. Movies give us a place to experience and to extend our lives.
As a quote from Yi Yi (2000, Cannes) says: “We live three times as long” because “movies give us twice what we can get from daily life.”
